7 Useful RV Parks in Yellowstone and Why? Here is Our View

Yellowstone National Park is so large that you can’t take it all in a single day. The area is teaming with wildlife, historic sites and pure Americana. This is why it is a popular destination for RVers who stay in the area for days on end.

The question is where you should stay. Here is our list of the top 7 most useful RV parks in Yellowstone. We’ll also share our reasons for putting each one on our list.

01. Fishing Bridge RV Park

This RV park is one of five inside of Yellowstone National Park. It tops our list because it is close to the namesake Fishing Bridge. You’re also in walking distance to the amphitheater and general store. It is hard to find this combination of amenities with proximity to wildlife.

The biggest issue with this RV park in Yellowstone is getting a reservation in the first place. You have to get reservations to camp here, and the waiting list may determine when you visit.

On the other hand, it has a whopping 325 RV sites, some of which have electricity. Because this is a public facility, it is one of the cheapest options available if you can get it.

02. Yellowstone Park/West Gate KOA

Yellowstone Park/West Gate KOA is a privately owned RV park six miles from the Yellowstone National Park’s West Entrance.

They offer everything you could want in an RV park. They have spacious RV sites. They allow you to rent one or two bedroom cabins, if you want to get out of your campervan. 

Most cabins have lights and heat, while deluxe cabins give you a kitchen and bathroom. Or you could rent a tent site. You can pay more for sites with a paved patio or picnic tables.

This RV park is a great choice for those with large RVs, because they have both back-in and pull-through sites. Pets are allowed.

03. East Yellowstone Lodges

The East Yellowstone Lodges are located in Cody, Wyoming. The facilities sit next to the east entrance to Yellowstone National Park. We’d recommend the Cody KOA RV park.

One point in its favor is the free shuttle to the Cody Nite Rodeo every night it runs. Or you could stay on-site and swim in their heated pool. This is a great place to stay if you have children.

They offer a playground, bike rentals and bounce house. They allow pets. You get free wi-fi.

One potential issue is the pool through limit. The max is 100 feet. They charge more than average, but military and essential worker discounts are available.

Getting a spot can be challenging, since they book-up fast and allow for extended stays.

04. Ennis RV Village

This RV village is located in Ennis, Montana. It is north-northwest of Yellowstone.

Ennis RV village can handle any size RV. They offer pull-through spaces for nearly everyone. There is fast internet and a convenience store in the campground. This campground is a roughly two hour drive to Yellowstone.

On the other hand, it is affordable and you may not have to reserve a spot months in advance to stay here. This is partially because they have almost eighty full-service RV sites. And you can sign up for a month long stay.

05. Colter Bay RV Park

This campground is a five minute walk from the great fly-fishing at Jackson Lake. This site has just over a hundred pull-through RV slots. They offer showers and laundry. They don’t have wifi or good cell phone service. 

On the other hand, it is pet friendly and affordable. Horseback riding, boat rentals and wagon rides are available in the area.

We’d say this is a great place to stay if you’re passing through Bridger-Teton National Forest. It is only half an hour drive from Yellowstone.

06. Mountainside KOA

This RV park is a logical choice if you’re heading to or from Old Faithful. (Old Faithful is less than 40 miles away.) They have some of the longest and widest pull-through RV sites, making it a good choice if you have a very long vehicle or trailer.

The pull-through limit is 105 feet. They also rent cabins. You can hike or ride your four-wheeler along the trails that lead to Gallatin National Forest. They have firewood, cable TV and propane, but that’s at an additional cost.

They also offer shuttles to the local Wild West Rodeo when it is going on.

07. Big Moose RV Park

This little RV park only offers four full-hookup RV sites. We mention it because it has the only full-hookup RV campsites in Cooke City. Cooke City is notable for being the only town on one of the only roads open in the winter leading into Yellowstone.

(It is located on the Northeast Gateway.) You could also rent one of their cabins, if you’d like to get out of the RV for a night.

This RV park is north of Livingston, Montana. It is an ideal stop for those heading to Yellowstone from Glacier National Park, northern Montana or northern Wyoming.

We do not recommend this RV park if you have a very large RV, because it can be hard to manage the Beartooth Highway.

The steep grades can be a problem for long, heavy RVs and trailers.

You don’t have to plan months in advance and spend a fortune to stay in an RV park in or around Yellowstone. The ideal RV park is along the route you want to travel, accommodates your particular RV and offers the amenities you want and need.
